Burlap Bags Into Pillows
Got busted pillows? Or any pillow you're ready to toss for some reason? Then
here's a tip from me! Reuse those feathers/stuffing. I used mine to fill up some
old burlap sacks to add some whimsy to my porch.
It's an idea I got a few years back while visiting some friends. They have a
lovely home; perfect little touches everywhere. I fell head over heals for their
screened porch. It was a perfectly serendipitous hodge podge of kitsch. On their
wooden rocking chair was an upcycled burlap rice bag, turned pillow. It's always
something I've wanted to replicate.
I don't buy rice in those burlap bags. I just don't really need that quantity is
all. However my years of waiting tables did land me at a restaurant that does.
So, with permission, I swiped the bag when it was empty. We also have a cute
little place in town called "The Peanut Depot" that sells their peanuts in
little burlap bags. So I kept these in my craftorium waiting for the time to go
to a craft store and buy some filler (I was still an overly scheduled student at
that time).
Luckily, I'm a rough sleeper, and popped a pillow this summer, and then... light
bulb! Why bother buying stuffing when I can just recycle this pillow. So I
finally got to finish my burlap pillow project, and think they look pretty cute.
Hope you do too!
